SYNODICA Epistola
Greaece Συνοδικὰ et Συνοδικὰ γράμματα, Epistola est; a Patribus Concilii seu Synodi scripta, de iis quae inibi decreta actaque essent. Cuiusmodi literae complures habentur in Conciliorum Collectione, de quibus copiose agit Bernardinus Ferrarius, de Epist. Eccl. l. 2. c. 6. Sed et Veteribus fuit in more positum, ut sedis alicuius, praesertim eminentioris, Episcopus recens promotus, fidei suae confessionem scriptam mitteret ad alios Episcopos vel Patriarchas (in quo se imitari dicebant exemplum Apostoli Pauli, de quo vide Galat. c. 2. v. 2.) ut sic in Ecclesia et fidei sinceritas et Catholica unitas conservaretur. Quale scriptum Graeci similiter Συνοδικὰ appellare solebant, quod non minus de fide ageret, ac ea quae ab ipsis Synodis mitti consuevêre. Seu potius, quod novus Praesul ea scriberet, cum consensu Synodi suae. Vide de iis Io. Garnerium, Notis ad Liberatum c. 18. Hinc Sergius, Ep. ad Honorium scribit, se ex solo auditu percepisse promotum esse Sophronium ad Episcopatum Hierosolymitanum, eo quod nondum acceperit ab eo huiusmodi scriptum, Nondum enim eius Synodicam epistolam, uti moris est, accepimus.
